About:
Rockin NC Workshops introduce teachers to the Rockin' NC teaching materials. These include lesson plans as well as boxes of North Carolina rocks and minerals integrated into hands-on activities. Although they would be well suited for other grade levels (eg. 6th Grade), the materials were developed in alignment with NCSES 4th Grade science standards and most of the workshops are geared towards 4th grade educators. However, loaner kits are available free of charge to any educator out there and available through the GES Department at Appalachian State University.
Workshops usually include:
- Box of NC rocks and minerals and related teaching aids
- Learning modules
- $50 stipend
- Visit to a Vulcan Materials quarry
- Rockin NC t-shirt
For more specific details, and information about upcoming workshops, see the flyers. The PD Workshop, loaner kits and all lesson materials are available FREE of charge to educators thanks to the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Appalachian State University and a partnership with Vulcan Materials Company
