Much of the City of Boone and Appalachian State University (ASU) lie very close to a river or creek. This means that, when heavy rains fall and river levels rise, homes and infrastructure may be in harm's way. Research by Department Chair and Professor Bill Anderson and GES students Emily Fedders, Carly Maas, and Andrew Barringer helps mitigate flood hazards on campus and investigates the physical and chemical resposnes of Boone Creek to rain events. For more information, see the recent profile of their work as well as other ASU researchers in Appalachian Today.
