GES student and professor highlight Department's commitment to transfer students

Transfer students make up 7% of Appalachian's student body, and are faced with unique challenges during their college experience. Because transfer students spend less time at Appalachian and often have heavy course loads, many do not participate in undergraduate research. Israel Sanchez, a transfer student and Geology major with a Paleontology concentration, and GES professor Andy Heckert were profiled by Appalachian Today for their paleontology research as an example of excellence in transfer student research and mentorship. Their work highlights the ability of transfer students to excel within the Department and engage in independent research experiences.

See our department-specific transfer student information and support page for more resources for transfer students.
