Jared Voris, a Department alumnus ('16) and now University of Calgary PhD student, discovered and named a new genus and species of tyrannosaur. Thanatotheristes degrootorum, the newly-recognized tyrannosaurid, is about 12 million years older than the famous Tyrannosaurus rex. Jared's work is making a big splash, and you can see a video of him describing the discovery on CTV news and learn about the find's broader context in the New York Times, National Geographic, or the Smithsonian Magazine. Great work, Jared!
