Department revives forgotten RV for mobile outreach activities

The Derpartment of Geological and Environmetnal Sciences (GES), with assistance from the College of Arts and Sciences, Vulcan Materials Company and College Access Partnerships, purchased and renovated a forgotten recreational vehicle (RV) to use as a mobile earth science laboratory for outreach events. Outreach coordinator Marta Toran and Professor Andrew Heckert, with assistance from GES undergraduates, will bring the RV, nicknamed the "Geobago", to K-12 schools throughout North Carolina to excite young learners about earth science. The Department hosts many school groups on campus, but the Geobago will allow Appalachian Geological and Environmental Sciences to reach students and educators at schools that lack the resources or capability to visit Boone.
