Tyler Barnes

Tyler Barnes joined the department in Fall of 2025. He is a geomorphologist interested in the evolution of coastal systems with changing climate conditions, sediment supplies, and human impacts (e.g. dredging, trawling, and shoreline stabilization). His research spans sandy beaches in central California and the lagoons and marshes of Virginia’s Eastern Shore, where he combines field measurements, remote sensing and numerical modeling to quantify morphologic change and understand the mechanisms that drive it.
